Persia welcomes Ms. Majd to her family of Mirzakhani scholars.
Hamta Majd is an outstanding researcher in core-sheath polymeric fibres for wound healing, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. In addition to her doctoral studies, she serves as a Senior Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Student Project Supervisor at UK’s prestigious University College London. In line with Persia’s focus on giving back to our communities through the pursuit of public service, she maintains an active presence as a volunteer, with a particular focus on serving individuals with special needs.
On receiving the scholarship, Ms. Majd stated: “I would like to acknowledge UCL’s Mechanical Engineering Department, the Edirisinghe Biomaterials Processing Laboratory, the Mechanical Engineering Workshop and School of Pharmacy, as well as the University of Sheffield, Hacettepe University, and Professor Anthony Harker, for their invaluable support and contributions to my academic and research journey.”
Persia Educational Foundation established its Mirzakhani Scholarship in remembrance of the first woman, an Iranian, to win the prestigious Fields Medal in mathematics, the late Stanford Professor, Dr. Maryam Mirzakhani. Each year, an independent panel selects the recipient of the Scholarship from among eligible applicants. The results are announced on 12 May, marking the anniversary of the birth of Professor Mirzakhani. The scholarship is designed to empower Iranian-descent women studying sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics at UK’s top STEM universities.
In addition to Persia Mirzakhani Scholarship, the Foundation offers other scholarships, including the Abdolreza Ansari Scholarship. Designed to support Iranian descent students of any age or citizenship, the Ansari Scholarship recognises those enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate programme in human rights or public service at an internationally accredited university in the UK or beyond. The recipients of this scholarship are announced on 10 December each year, to help mark Human Rights Day for all Iranians around the globe.
Persia Educational Foundation is a non-governmental UK-registered charity. Its mission is to provide scholarships and educational opportunities to Iranian-descent students throughout the UK. Persia dedicates 100% of donations to its scholarship fund, plus the additional 25% Gift Aid by qualifying donors, to eligible students studying at UK and other internationally accredited universities.
